Surfacing Stones

When I came across this scene, I loved the changing colors of the rocks as they emerged from the water. I painted a small plein air to capture the colors faithfully from life. Later, I created this studio piece, taking the utmost care to preserve the life-like colors from my original study. It captures a beautiful scene Andrea and I encountered while on a painting trip with friends in upstate New York.
